The Cast

British Empire

  • Sir Winston St. John, OBE-- A former soldier and veteran of the wars in the Sudan, Sir Winston's war wound from a Mahdi spear point meant that he was placed on the retirement list before he wished. Always a hardheaded sort of fellow, Sir Winston was determined not to let the end of his military career be the end of his adventuring as well. Armed with his OBE, service pistol, an unflappable amount of pluck and a cup of his favorite Earl Grey, Sir Winston set out for the Martian frontier in search of action.

United States of America

United States Marine Corps
  • Captain William Johnson-- A junior officer in the United States Marine Corps, Johnson is the commander of the USS Cumberland's small contingent of Marines. Still a bit wet behind the ears, he is one of the officers commanding the Cumberland's mixed Navy and Marine Corps landing party, and one of the very few number of American officers on Mars. 28mm Chinstrap Miniatures figure.

United States Navy
  • Commander Amos Dundee-- Commander Dundee is the enterprising, hot-headed and much beloved captain of the liftwood cloudship USS Cumberland. Commander Benton graduated from Annapolis and served as a young officer aboard Admiral Farragut's flagship at the Battle of Mobile Bay. A former acquaintance of Major Benton, the two men's conflicting sides during the Civil War turned them into bitter rivals.

  • Lieutenant Leonard Greenwood-- The bellicose protégé of Commander Dundee, Lieutenant Greenwood commands the Naval landing forces off of the USS Cumberland. Even though he adores his captain, his relatively brief career in the Navy keeps him from openly distaining the ex-Confederates he encounters on Mars, in spite of what Commander Dundee keeps telling him about the 'Rebs.'

Fenians

  • "Captain" Sean Kilrain-- Though many are unsure of whether or not "Captain" Kilrain was ever really an officer in any army, he certainly was dressed for the part at the beginning of the Fenian uprising and his ability for impassioned speech-making and soliloquy convinced his fellow Irish patriots to place him in command. A fervent Irish patriot and veteran of Liam O'Connor's Fenian Ram, Kilrain commands Major Benton's contingent of Irish ex-pats. 28mm Foundry figure.

  • Peter O'Malley-- Another Irish patriot and ex-crewman aboard the now-destroyed Martian screw galley Fenian Ram, O'Malley is a veteran of the American Civil War who serves in a murky capacity somewhere between a First Sergeant and a Lieutenant--but always subservient to his beloved "Captain" Kilrain. Though an expatriate living on Mars, O'Malley yearns to return to his native Ireland and set her free from English tyranny. 28mm Sash & Saber figure.

Ex-Confederates

  • Major Marshall Benton-- A Virginia native, Major Benton is the genteel and eloquent commander of a surly bunch of Confederate ex-pats and renegade Fenians living on Mars. A veteran of the War of Northern Aggression, Benton's not getting any younger (as evidenced by his white hair), but he's a sly and intelligent officer and more than a match for any meddling Yankees prowling around his adopted planet. 28mm Chinstrap Miniatures figure.

German Empire

  • Herr Major Rittmeister Manfred von Strickland-- Seconded from the elite Garde du Corps cuirassiers, Herr Major is an imposing mountain of Teutonic sausage, expert swordsman, and the only man on Mars with the titanic strength and unflinching determination to carry a first-model Maxim gun as a personal sidearm (it has that convenient little pistol grip on the back, you see) with the ammunition box clipped to the belt around his massive waist, in addition to his Broomhandle Mauser.

Russian Empire

  • Ivan Dmitriyevich Moscova-- Ivan is a former Russian prizefighter who currently works as a steam engine mechanic on Mars. A heavy price on his head back in his home country with a heavy sprinkling of wanderlust drove Ivan find a home on another planet, and he has done well for himself in the meantime. He is, however, always on the lookout for a good scrape to get into.
